Ecology And Biology: Why So Popular?

Ecology And Biology: Why So Popular? If you want to take the best career advice, one of the most popular choices is ecology and biology. This is one of the most popular bachelor's degree programs for people who want to enter the study of the environment.A lot of energy is focused on the economy and how it will affect the student's education, especially with recent changes in the media such as the emergence of network television and movies that portray nature as a horrible, menacing force to be avoided at all costs. While that may be true, what's not so clear is the reality that nature is here to stay. One of the most profound discoveries by evolutionists is that while there were millions of years of evolution, we're still here because of them, and not because of what we did.Our purpose in studying science discipline such as ecology and biology is not to destroy nature but to understand it. The best way to do this is to study the living organisms, their habitats, and their relationship s with the other organisms in their environment. But what is it about ecology and biology that make it such a popular choice for Bachelor's Degrees? There are a few reasons.Biology is difficult to learn and the idea of studying how something functions without being able to observe it first-hand is very challenging. In addition, because everything in nature changes rapidly, if you're not reading the books you're going to have a difficult time taking the right classes and studying enough to keep up with your biology education. In order to better understand how life functions in its natural habitat, you need to look at the movement of microorganisms, the distribution of nutrients, the structure of the food chain, and the interaction of different types of microorganisms with each other. All of these factors influence how life is not successful. It takes someone who is well-versed in ecology and biology to choose which questions to ask, because science is constantly changing. In addition, you have to get comfortable asking and answering the same questions over again. Also, there are a lot of concepts that science cannot explain in terms of their scientific explanation; thus, it is very difficult to explain the chemical behavior of the life forms that appear in nature. There are two good reasons why ecology and biology are so popular with students, and those are that they help to put together a good Bachelor's Degree in Biology and they provide a detailed picture of how life works in the natural world. As far as why ecology and biology are so popular, it's a combination of three things: Biology is an extremely interesting subject, ecology is extremely useful and important, and biology is an excellent method to learn how to think scientifically. Those are the three reasons why ecology and biology are so popular with college students.

Guide to Owning the SAT Math

Guide to Owning the SAT Math Huntington Learning Centers Guide to Owning the SAT Math Consisting of two multiple choice sections, the SAT math is an assessment of your knowledge and skills in both high school algebra and geometry. Understanding the format, assessed skills, and most frequently asked questions can help better prepare you for the exam and ultimately boost your score. The SAT math section consists of four different content strands, each with several different points of related content: Number and Operations: This section consists of arithmetic word problems, rational numbers, counting techniques, sets, number theory, sequences and series, and properties of integers. Algebra and Functions: This will test exponential properties, algebraic word problems, linear equations and inequalities, equations of lines, absolute value, algebraic expressions, radical and rational equations, direct and inverse variation, and algebraic functions and symbols. Geometry and Measurement: Focus will include volume of 3D shapes, area and perimeter of polygons and circles, Pythagorean Theorem properties, geometric visualization, coordinate geometry, transformations, similarity, and slope. Data Analysis, Statistics, and Probability This section will focus on descriptive statistics (mean, median, and mode), probability, and data interpretation (tables and graphs). Knowledge is power! Understanding the assessed content and skills on the SAT is important, but using this information to enhance your preparation is even more vital. Domestic Violence And Guns Dont Really Mix

Domestic Violence And Guns Don't Really Mix pexels.com On Monday, the Supreme Court voted to uphold this law, preventing those convicted with misdemeanor domestic violence from owning guns. Two men from Maine, Stephen Voisine and William Armstrong III, were involved in the case, claiming that their guilty pleas for domestic violence (i.e. hitting their partners) shouldn’t be the deciding factor in whether or not they are able to obtain a weapon. The justices disagreed. They rejected all arguments that the law should cover only intentional acts of abuse and not “reckless” acts of abuse. (Reckless here defined as the perpetrator “is aware of the risk that an act will cause injury, but not certain it will”). An example of such “reckless” behavior would be throwing a plate during an argument or slamming doors in the same scenario. Justice Elena Kagan, speaking on behalf of all Supreme Court justices, claimed this law was put forth by Congress 20 years ago to close out a loophole, and “prohibit domestic abusers convicted under run-of-the-mill misdemeanor or assault and battery laws from possessing guns.” She also claimed that excluding “reckless” misdemeanors would undermine the design of this law. Of course, gun rights activists are in strong opposition to this ruling. According to them, Voisine and Armstrong III shouldn’t lose a constitutional right just because of domestic abuse. Advocates for domestic abuse fell on the other side of the spectrum, pushing for the restriction to stay in place. Voisine pled guilty in 2004 to assault when he slapped his girlfriend in the face while under the influence. A few years following this incident, he was reported by an anonymous source for having shot a bald eagle with a rifle, at which point he was convicted and sentenced to one year in prison. Armstrong pled guilty in 2008 to assaulting his wife. A few years following the incident, police searched his home during a narcotics investigation and discovered firearms and ammunition. He was then sentenced to three years of probation. While this wasn’t the most important case the justices had to cover, its outcome is certainly a step in the right direction. The Obama administration is happy with the ruling according to White House spokesman, Eric Schultz, suggesting that it still probably wouldn’t affect the current gun control debate circulating in Congress following the mass shooting in Orlando, FL. Still, it’s a case worthy of our attention, especially because it prompted Justice Clarence Thomas to ask multiple questions from the bench, something he hadn’t done in about 10 years. (Justice Thomas was a close friend of Justice Antonin Scalia, the recently deceased judge, a conservative supporter of gun rights). So it was no surprise that Justice Thomas was concerned with the argument that misdemeanor conviction would deprive a person of a constitutional right to bear arms. And it was also no surprise that he dissented from the ruling on Monday, stating, “Under the majority’s reading, a single conviction under a state assault statute for recklessly causing an injury to a family member such as by texting while driving can now trigger a lifetime ban on gun ownership … We treat no other constitutional right so cavalierly.” Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented as well, agreeing that Congress’ law should have been written differently to include reckless conduct. Voisine and Armstong were the major topics of Monday’s decision by the Supreme Court, as they were both convicted of breaking federal law following their misdemeanor convictions for domestic violence. This didn’t stop either man, however, from arguing that they shouldn’t be barred from owning firearms, as their convictions “could have been based on reckless action, not action that was knowing or intentional.” But with the Supreme Court ruling just the opposite, it’s something for everyone to keep in mind, and hopefully something that will have an effect on future gun laws. The bottom line: if you commit a crime, be it misdemeanor or major felony, you’re bound to lose some privileges. While the country is largely divided on gun control issues, it’s important to remember, especially in this instance, that domestic violence is nonetheless violence. So putting a gun into the arms of an already violent being is something that should be taken seriously. And unfortunately, this isn’t something that can be looked upon on a case-by-case basis. So don’t commit crimes and you won’t have your rights taken away. At least, that’s what the Supreme Court’s ruling is telling the general population. So for now, it’s in your best interest to listen, as there are going to be many gun law debates to follow, and they’re going to be the final say.

What My Arabic Lessons With italki Look Like After 6 Weeks

What My Arabic Lessons With italki Look Like After 6 Weeks One of our italki Language Challengers,  Anil Polat runs a self-travel blog called foXnoMad.  Hes been taking sessions even before the Challenge and is already at 6 weeks where he began Arabic with absolutely no ability.  For our Challengers, this is something that you can expect after you complete the Challenge!  He only did 19 hours so far (at 6 weeks) but its pretty close.  Reprinted with permission. Original article here. By The Numbers: What My Arabic Lessons With italki Look Like After 6 Weeks At the beginning of December, I began a 3 month project with the language learning site italki with the goal to be conversationally fluent in Arabic. Having now completed a third of the way, here are the raw numbers on my progress and what I’ve learned so far. 19: Number Of Course Hours I’m taking roughly 5 hours of lessons a week, once per weekday. (I’ve tried two hours sessions but after 60 minutes I begin to lose focus.) 100%: Percentage Of Arabic Script I Can Read And Write Although it was intimidating at first, I can comfortably read Arabic script as well as write by phonetically sounding out words. 2: Number Of Instructors I spent some time trying out several teachers to get an idea of styles as well as evaluate which might be the best fit for me personally. I eventually fell into a good routine with two particular instructors whose structured lesson plans I’m benefiting from greatly. 1910: italki Credits Used That would be the equivalent of about $190 for courses so far. Although every instructor sets their own rates, almost all seem to fall into the 120 italki credit (~$12 USD) range. Here’s a bit more on how italki works  exactly. At Least 100: Words Learned This one’s hard to quantify but it has to be at least one hundred, not including various common phrases as well. Where I’m At Right Now At this point I can conjugate verbs in the past tense from memory and know many of these essential travel word combinations. In a relatively short time, I’ve picked up the structure of Arabic: the rules and grammar which make the language work. Early on I wasn’t sure if laying down this foundation first (prior to speaking skills) would be efficient but the thorough italki instructors have proved me otherwise. I’ll keep you updated with my weekly progress. Please let me know if you have any questions in the comments below about the italki process, specifics of what I’m learning, or any tips you might have to make me a better student! Irvine Tutoring 5 Tips for Success on a Literature Final Exam

Irvine Tutoring 5 Tips for Success on a Literature Final Exam Irvine English Tutoring: 5 Tips for Success on a Literature Final Exam Final exams are just around the corner, and most students are scrambling to complete all of their study and review so they can get the highest grade possible in their classes. Nearly every student will be enrolled in a literature class or a class that requires students to comprehend and analyze novels as part of the curriculum. There are several things students can work on to improve their technique when it comes to studying literature. For the most part, students can work on comprehension, annotation, reading efficiency, and identify key information. The most important thing for literature students to do is read the book. Theres no substitute for having first-hand knowledge of what happened in the story. 1. Annotation and note-taking Its important for students to develop their annotation and note-taking skills to prepare for a literature final. Although it would not be practical to annotate an entire book, there may be certain chapters or dialogue that requires a student to annotate. Additionally, students can benefit from taking summary notes at the end of each chapter or a specific shift or transition in the plot. Students can take notes regarding their observations of characters and their development or how they interact with the other characters in the novel. Whether the notes are made directly in the book or on a separate document, it’s ideal for students to review all of these before taking their final. 2. Plot review Students who have read several books throughout the year are encouraged to conduct a plot review, especially of the novels they read several months ago. It can be easy to forget plot points given the fact that students have been reading multiple books. Students can either refer to their notes or use a site such as SparkNotes or Cliffs Notes, which provides a convenient summary of nearly every book that will be assigned in a high school class. 3. Character analysis In addition to reviewing summary and plot, students are encouraged to take a look at character analysis. Who was the hero or protagonist? Who was the foil? Which characters were flat and which were complex? Character analysis could be especially difficult if the novel were written in a different vernacular or period where students have to concentrate on decoding the sentences before they can learn about the thoughts and feelings of the characters. Most final exams cover how characters change in the novel or how they interact with one another at some point. Even if a student feels completely confident that they understood the characters, its important to review the various inner monologs and interactions throughout the story (READ: Orange County Tutoring: How to Survive Finals Week). 4. Author bio and context Most students dont think about learning about the authors biography or the context of the time in which the book was written. However, nearly every author was influenced in some way by their personal surroundings and period. Additionally, their personal history and background may have influenced their work. Its a good idea to take a few minutes to learn about the authors biography as well as what was going on in the world when they were alive or when they were writing the novel. 5. Underlying themes and symbols Another good thing for students to study is the many underline symbols, motifs, and themes found within high school literature. Sometimes these symbols seem obvious once a student reads about them. However, they can be tricky to discern without help. Students can either work with their study group, their tutor or refer to an online study guide to pick out the various themes. For the most part, final exams will ask students to understand and analyze the devices authors used to elicit a specific response in the reader. 5 Tips for Making Sure Your Band Doesnt Suck

5 Tips for Making Sure Your Band Doesnt Suck Suzy S. Today Paul McCartney announced his upcoming album, set for release on February 7th, featuring cover songs he deemed as key influences for his and John Lennons songwriting, as well as two new songs.   The album will come as an answer to the topic that Beatles fans have often analyzed, even four decades after the bands break-up: what exactly inspired the guys? Of course, despite their fame and fortune, the Beatles career wasnt always smooth sailing.   But if youre considering starting a band, its usually best to avoid the drama.   Here, check out advice from Ultimate-Guitar.com on starting and maintaining a band: Know your place Are you a lead guitarist full of great solos? That’s beautiful, just don’t start spamming solos where they don’t belong. Are you a rhythm guitarist? Good, then keep rhythm and don’t start doing whacky stuff. The same goes for everybody: know what you’re supposed to do, when you’re supposed to do it, and then do what you have to at the right time. A lot of people forget this. Criticize each other Don’t be afraid to point out mistakes, no matter how small. Chances are that whoever makes a mistake doesn’t even realize they do, until it gets pointed out. And be as blunt about it as you can. If someone can’t take the criticism, get rid of him/her. It sounds harsh, but its necessary. Nobody likes getting rid of a band member, but sometimes you just have to. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. Your band members are great people and good friends, if you’ve done things right so far, but sometimes they just don’t fit with your band. Learn to compensate for mistakes One important point when playing live is learning what to do when somebody makes a mistake. This is something you have to feel as a band, simply because you can’t go over every possible mistake during rehearsal. But something you shouldn’t do is try to catch up when you miss a beat, e.g. play the notes you should have played, only at the wrong time, to arrive back at where you are supposed to be at some point. Play something else, or play nothing at all and let your band handle it. A general rule is that if it sounds good, it’s not a big deal. The exception is a solo; these are usually really hard to pick up once you’ve made a mistake, and you can’t just stop playing. Usually, the only options you have are to accept that you messed up and just keep playing, or to signal the band to skip the solo in some way. Listen to your audience This can’t be stressed enough. Listen to all the feedback you get, negative or positive, and if they have a valid point, do something with it. Your audience listens to your music in an entirely different way than you do, so listen to what they have to say. You may feel you messed up, but chances are nobody even noticed. Or maybe you feel like you made no mistakes, but somebody noticed something after all. Make a good setlist This is more important than you might think. A setlist can make or break a performance. You need to make sure every song you play belongs in your setlist, and you need to put the songs in the right order. All this depends on the kind of music you play and what you’re going for as a band. Do you want to just start with a bang and get the audience going immediately? Start with a high-tempo song with a fast solo. Or maybe you want to get the audience going slowly, ease them into your performance? Then start with a nice, slow ballad. It’s all a matter of feeling things, trying things, and listening to what your audience said about past performances. Do what feels right, and think of what you would like to hear if you were in the audience. More often than not, its not only about how talented you are if you dont have a good rapport and friendship with your band members, it can end up a disaster.   Do you agree?   Let us know!   Leave a comment below.
